Movement Method & Other Therapies

An evidence-based education / therapy system that uses neuroscience, movement and nature to optimise learning and performance.

Creating an environment that is conducive to learning

Movement Method is an evidence-based education / therapy system that uses neuroscience, movement and nature to optimise learning and performance.

The definition as presented in the NTLS eBook – Introduction to Movement Method:

“Movement Method is based on the simple premise that if you want a person with autism to learn then you need to create an environment that is conducive to learning. The ideal learning environment targets the person’s sensory needs and allows the person to move (physical environment). In addition, the person should be taught in a flexible, fun and pressure free way through their passions and intrinsic interests (human environment). If both the physical and human environment is set up correctly then we generally find that the person advances very quickly in terms of their perspective taking, social and life skills, academics and self-advocacy (learning).”

So, for support options needed in individual areas or a more generalised approach, contact us to discuss how Movement Method Mentoring can help.

Movement Method can help with

  • early childhood education – fine and gross motor, oral motor, alpha-numerical literacy, sharing, turn taking, sensory learning, play skills, communication and more
  • speech
  • academics
  • social skills
  • life skills
  • arts, music and rhythm
  • self-regulation
  • self-advocacy

Other therapy modalities

Rhythm and Music Therapy used in early education and older therapy has some great benefits including improved coordination, reduced stress, reciprocal communication and engagement, as well as increasing enjoyment in learning which is shown to increase memory creation.

Big Art Therapy is a fun and creative way to incorporate movement, gross motor skills, creativity, social engagement and self-advocacy.

Whether it’s learning basic academic skills, social skills or life skills, using a combination of the above that suits the individual can have far greater benefits than static or talking-based therapy alone.

If you have a young child, teenager or young adult needing extra support outside school, contact us to discuss their needs further and we can develop a custom built therapy or education approach that can evolve as they grow.

Parents of a 4 year old.

(Our son) enjoyed immensely the time that you spent with him. The painting was clearly a source of joy for him, as was the way you used his preferred movies as an entry way to movement and music.

We have seen major improvements in his engagement away from screen time. He transitions away from the computer more quickly and easily, and actively seeks out non screen pursuits.
